Off-Season Training Programs

What to do in the off-season ? Get matches, go to camps, attend open mats, try freestyle / greco, strength train like a madman, improve foot speed, increase power, work on weakness's, develop a new leg attacks, improve on top, get explosive off bottom, learn new setups, master your counters, gain confidence..

I'm not sure if I left anything out, if so, I'll update your choices later. What I've noticed over the years is simply this... There no magic moves to learn. I've been blessed to work with 100's of different wrestlers from all experiences and age groups. Those that concentrate on the basics and improve their over all strength and athletic ability seem to always dominate when it counts and make winning look easy for them.

The opposite approach would be to either not do anything at all or do what most people do, which is try to do TOO MUCH. This could be categorized as bouncing from ROOM To ROOM, Coach to Coach, hitting a tournament every weekend all the way to training 5 times a week...

Try this for one summer, stick with one coach or trainer, work on developing more strength and speed and watch what happens. Continue to practice your wrestling skills, but never without some sort of strength workouts. As you'll find out, there aren't that many coaches that concern themselves with strength training their wrestlers. I DO.

The benefits of strength training not only improves your over all body, it also prepares you to focus more and believe in yourself.
