Prepare for Success

The season is coming to a close for most wrestlers while others are looking for ways to improve. In the sport of wrestling there are good tournaments to attend and other alternative ways to prepare better for next year even after our post season events are complete.

Unfortunately in this day and age, in order to really excel at a sport, one must do what the 'Good Guys' do and that's continue to practice that one sport periodically throughout the year, not just from November to March but also in the spring, summer, fall.

Even when I competed, I searched for additional training after the State Tournaments were over. Realistically, it's the best time to improve your favorite techniques as well as perfect various positions that give you the most problems. Examples could be as easy as getting tougher on top or more explosive from the bottom, as well as learning a new set up for your favorite shot or perhaps developing a new shot all together. This can't be done without setting a goal and sticking to it. Not only do you have to be committed but also prepared to make a few sacrifices along the way.....

WHAT I'VE LEARNED...

I learned that you have to rise to the challenge of wrestling with courage.

I learned that champions don't fear losing.

I learned that the best athlete doesn't always win.

I learned that my opponent is nervous too (and he should be)

I learned that fear can make you go backwards, it is better to go forward.

I learned that you can go hungry and still be tough enough to practice harder...and that few people truly know what real hunger feels like!

I learned that if you want something bad enough you have to believe it first in your thoughts.

I learned that if you must face an adversary, do your homework, know his moves, plan your strategy .

I learned that your body can be tired and hurting, but you always have more to give, know matter how tired you think you are.

I learned that once you quit it is over forever.

I learned that all pain passes eventually.

I learned that victory after working hard for something is a high to which nothing else compares.

I learned that you can lose and still keep your dignity.

I learned that Preparation is critical for success but how I prepare is the KEY TO MAKING IT HAPPEN

I learned, that to go onto that mat, I have to do it all alone. Come what may, and return, tired, battered, sometimes in victory sometimes in defeat, take the lumps, always expect to win, always wrestle with heart, and most of all........ never ever give up, no matter what!
